The Portland Art Museum was having a design show displaying the work of Alexander Rodchenk. PAM wanted something that was visually similar to one of Rodchenko’s peices to be the poster for the show. To do this using bold shapes, contrasting colors and cut out halftone images was key. The result was a bold design that keeps the viewer engaged.
Red Hot Chili Peppers
The Red Hot Chili Peppers, Under the Bridge Tour, was a show held at the Bill Graham Auditorium in San Francisco. The tour was paying homage to the album Under the Bridge. To achieve a Red Hot Chili Peppers vibe, the use of half tones and dark contrasting colors were applied to give it a punk/rock edgy vibe. Along with the use of hand drawn type and illustrations. Together these two mediums bring together a punk rock poster of the ages.
Mile High Horror Festival
Mile High Horror Festival is a Horror movie festival held a mile hight in Denver, Colorado. The main attractions to the festival are the Monster, Serial Killer, and Vampire movie categories. Since this festival was focused around Horror, the posters needed to evoke a sense of terror in each. To achieve this the use of blood splatters was applied with the Horror characters face comeing out of the splatters to make each figure pop. Used with a deathly hand drawn lettering brings all the creepyness together.
The Polish Ambassador
The Polish Ambassador is an Electronic Music DJ from Oakland, Ca. His music is considered a little ahead of its time, with a following around the world. Known for his space age beats and iconic jumpsuit its hard to miss his unique character. Playing off of his captivating image. A back from the future direction was initiatied and hand drawn illustrations and type were used combined with water color.
Mark Farina Mushroom Jazz
Mushroom Jazz with Mark Farina is an annual event held at Mighty SF, a venue in San Francisco. Mark Farina is a House Music DJ, whose music has captivated audiences around the world. With his mellow beats and trance sound, its easy to understand how. Using influence from San Francisco’s early rock history, and playing off of the name of the show. A psychedelic poster was the perfect solution. Handdrawn type and illustration, were utilized to create a personalized poster. Fitting with the vibe of the music an analogous color scheme was applied.
I Haight SF
The Haight Ashbury neighborhood of San Francisco is almost as iconic as San Francisco itself. Known for the hippie revolution that took place during the sixties. Not much has changed since the days of tie dye and bell bottoms. In order to keep the longevity of the hippie movement going, a psychedelic style was chosen to promote this eclectic neighborhood. Using bright colors and flat images, a D.I.Y approach was used with screen printing.
Baker Skateboards West Coast Tour
Baker skateboards is a skateboard company out of southern california. Known for their team of spliff fuled skateboarders rolling with a light approach was necessary. The West Coast tour started in Seatlle and ended on a bright note in San Diego. Using an ocean background, bright colors and the cartoon characters brings together the ideal West Coast summer feeling.
BIg Bites Munchies
Big Bites Munchies is a reciepe book company out of Portland, Oregen. Known for their easy but delicious munchie recipes they have treats that all ages can enjoy. Knowing that these treats are simple but complex in flavor using a simple style with realistic layered detail. Showing all ingredients brings the illustraions to life. Hand drawn headlines bring individual character to each recipe.
I Haight Cooking
I Love Food But Hate Cooking was a specialty cook book made for the revival of the Haight district in 2013. Haight Ashbury is known for the hippie movement and housing the Greatful Dead. Paying homage to both of these movements a phycedlic approach was taken for creating this cook book..
Naturaline is a fishing line company out of Portland, Oregon. Naturaline is not like a lot of the fishing line company’s out there. Their mission is promoting the qualities of enjoying nature, and not exploiting it. Naturaline is for the avid out doors Family , or any other Eco-conscious fisherman. With hand drawn typography and illustrations a rustic approach was taken when making the packaging. Using recycled materials, its hard not to want to enjoy nature with Naturaline.
Pigeon Head Brewery
Cana Cacao is a medical cannabis edibles company out of San Francisco. This brand is not like most of the other companies out on the market. They take their medicine to the next level with their easily accecable and transportable Choco Chews. The packing was kept simple and straight to the point. A neutral color scheme was used to give it an earthy feel. The color associated with the flavor was applied to give the boxes some pop.
Ritual Coffee Roasters
Ritual Coffee Roasters is a coffee company based in San Francisco, California. They have a very unique selection of different types of coffee from around the world. The companies name is playing off the fact that making coffee becomes a ritual to most coffee drinkers as a staple for their day. The logos design plays off this ritual. A vintage coffee roaster is used in the background to show an staple part of the ritual. The type in overlaid on top to give a 3D effect on the logo.
